Your Share in God’s Promises

The Scriptures clearly describe what the faithful can hope for, based on the promises that God has made, and the evidence that He will do what He has promised.

The promises were first made to Abraham (Abram) who had great faith. He was promised that he would possess the land called Israel, and that he would have many, many descendants who would live in the land of Israel. One of his descendants (Christ) would cause all people to be blessed.

The Bible records the history of Israel, including the life of another man of faith, David, who was Israel’s great king. It also gives us God’s writings of prophecies – messages from God to the people and knowledge about what was going to happen in the future.

Ephesians 2:11-13 explains the theme of “The Hope of Israel” Hope was once available only to those that worshiped as Jews. By Christ’s death on the cross, the way to worship God while remaining as Gentiles was opened. Gentiles are now included in the sacred promises made to Abraham.

Faithful Jews and Gentiles will receive salvation together. “For”, writes Paul, “you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26) He goes on “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
